A new membership organization, the Association for International All-Star (AIA), has launched to support cheerleaders worldwide.
Unlike organizations such as the USASF, the AIA says it’s independent and free from ties to major companies like Varsity, which have long dominated the sport. It’s a for-profit organization based outside the USA.
Why it matters
The AIA aims to make cheerleading more fair, open, and welcoming. They aim to unite the cheer community, listen to everyone’s ideas, and support the sport’s growth globally.
Their vision, according to their website:
“We aim to establish the largest, most inclusive independent international organization for All Star cheer and dance. By providing a stakeholder-driven structure, we empower those who shape the sport to have a voice in its growth and direction.”
What’s coming:
- Global Tournament: AIA will host an International All Star Tournament every 18 months, in alternating locations around the world. The first tournament will be held in Montreal, Canada, in July 2026. The tournament will not be an end-of-season event, but the “pinnacle of AIA’s competitions”.
- Regional Competitions: These will take place more frequently.
- Support for Growth: AIA plans to fund an International Non-Profit Association, allowing gym owners and event producers to focus on improving the sport.
